Morning Whispers: "Remain MY Child"
Have you ever woken up in the morning with a thought on your mind that you know is a little too deep and perfect to have come from you? Like a good song or piece of poetry, there are some words or sounds that have a different quality to them, a Spirit-quality. In His word, God describes his voice as "still" and "small." In cultivating my own personal 'ears to hear' what the Spirit is saying, I have discovered that these waking thoughts or "morning whispers" are many times the voice of the Lord...especially if I went to bed praying, reading, or meditating on scripture.
So what was God saying this morning? I thought you'd never ask! I was listening to Misty Edwards sing Baptize My Heart and just felt really stirred by the lyrics, especially this "the only safe place is in the center of the flame." Then I "tapped in" and heard Abba whisper this to my soul:
“REMAIN MY CHILD"
—there you cannot be baited.
Remain in MY ARMS.
Lift your eyes!
Why so downcast? Put your hope in ME!!
Here you are not affected by the wind and the waves.
What's crazy is that I came in to work today and saw that my assistant, Ashley Hayes, was listening to her iPOD. I asked her what she was moving to this morning. She replied, "a little bit of Misty." "Really," I said, "what song?" "Baptize My Heart."
I guess God had us in the same river this morning. What river does he have YOU in today? What is He whispering to you?
